The Teeming Brain is a blog about ideas, with a special focus on religion, horror, the paranormal, creativity, consciousness, and culture. It also focuses a lot on economic collapse, peak oil, and other apocalyptic scenarios.

It’s brought to you by me, Matt Cardin. I’m a writer, college teacher, and musician living in Central Texas. I have a master’s degree in religion and a lifetime of involvement in the study of world religion and philosophy, and I write frequently about the mutual implications of the above-named subjects. I’m the author of Divinations of the Deep (print edition 2002; ebook edition 2010), which launched the New Century Macabre fiction imprint for Ash-Tree Press, and Dark Awakenings (2010), which Publishers Weekly praised as a “thinking-man’s book of the macabre” with “unusual philosophic depth.” I have also published a free ebook titled A Course in Demonic Creativity, in which I explore the theory and practice of creative artistic work as a collaborative effort between a person and his or her muse, daemon, or genius.
